Title: An Informal Discussion with the Scientific Pioneer

Description: Isaias Raw, born in 1927 in São Paulo, received his PhD in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (USP) and later became a professor at this same institution as well as at Hebrew University, MIT, Harvard, and the City College of NY. His contributions include groundbreaking research on the biochemistry of macromolecules and educational projects such as production of the first student science kits in Brazil. He created and directed various institutions such as Funbec for science teaching, the Carlos Chargas Foundation and Cescem for implementing competency exams, the Experimental Course on Medicine at USP for integrating clinical and social medicine into the traditional curriculum, and the Biotechnology Center of the Butantan Institute for the production of vaccines. His numerous prizes include the Brazilian Order of Merit in 1995 and the Conrado Wessel Award in 2004.

After a brief ceremony marking the inauguration of the ICTP-SAIFR Isaias Raw Chair, Prof. Raw will discuss his fascinating career with the audience. All are welcome to participate and there is no need to register to attend this event.
