Simons-FAPESP Research Professor Positions
The ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research announces the opening of two Simons-FAPESP research professor positions. Depending on the qualifications of the candidates, the positions will be either permanent professorships or 4-year professorships with the possibility of tenure after 3 years.
Candidates from all areas of theoretical physics are encouraged to apply, and preference for one of the two positions will be in the area of complex systems with connections to biology. The search committee is chaired by Peter Goddard (IAS Princeton), and the search committee members are William Bialek (Princeton Univ.), David Gross (KITP, Santa Barbara), Marcus Aguiar (Univ. Campinas), Juan Maldacena (IAS Princeton), Belita Koiller (Univ. Fed. Rio de Janeiro) and Simon Levin (Princeton Univ.).
ICTP-SAIFR is a South American center for theoretical physics created in 2011 as a collaboration of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) with the São Paulo State University (UNESP) and the São Paulo Research Funding Agency (FAPESP). It is located at the Instituto de Fisica Teorica (IFT-UNESP) campus in downtown São Paulo and has a large number of postdocs and visitors. In addition to performing research and organizing activities, the new professors will assist in the teaching and supervising of Masters and PhD students of IFT-UNESP.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, and a generous donation from the Simons Foundation allows these salaries to be competitive with those in the USA. Additional grants are available for research and travel from state and national funding agencies. Professors will also be able to use ICTP-SAIFR funds for graduate students, postdocs and visitors, and will have automatic visiting positions at the ICTP in Trieste. Although applications will be accepted until the two positions are filled, candidates are strongly encouraged to apply before May 31, 2017 by filling out this online application form.
