Postdoctoral positions in field/string theory

The ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research (ICTP-SAIFR), located at the campus of the Instituto de Física Teórica (IFT-UNESP) in Sao Paulo, announces the opening of up to 3 FAPESP postdoctoral positions to begin in 2021 in the area of quantum field theory/string theory. The fellowships are part of the “São Paulo Excellence Chair” FAPESP Program and physicist Pedro Vieira is the main researcher of this project.

IFT-UNESP has a strong string theory group including Nathan Berkovits, Horatiu Nastase and Andrei Mikhailov with whom the candidate can interact, and the neighbouring university USP also has a very strong quantum fields and string group including Victor Rivelles and Diego Trancanelli.

The FAPESP postdoctoral fellowships pay an annual tax-free salary of 88,500 Brazilian reais as well as moving costs and 13,275 Brazilian reais/year for travel and research expenses. The selected candidate must reside in Sao Paulo for the duration of the fellowship. Postdocs will also receive ICTP-SAIFR funds to invite visitors and organize events as soon as in-person activities are allowed.

Review of applications will begin in November 2020 and will continue until all positions have been filled. Although there is no strict deadline, applications before December 1, 2020 are strongly recommended for positions to begin in 2021.

Candidates can apply by filling out the online application form here.

Other ICTP-SAIFR associated researchers with whom the postdoctoral researchers can collaborate include:

Astrophysics/Cosmology/Gravitational Waves – Raul Abramo (IFUSP), Marcos Lima (IFUSP), Rodrigo Nemmen (IAG-USP), Elisabete de Gouveia Dal Pino (IAG-USP), Farinaldo Queiroz (ICTP-SAIFR/IIP-Natal), Rogério Rosenfeld (ICTP-SAIFR/IFT-UNESP), Riccardo Sturani (ICTP-SAIFR/IIP-Natal);
